Ajax rental-heating context
Ajax requires at least 20°C in landlord-heated rental accommodation.
Ajax's current Rented Dwelling Temperature By-law requires landlords who normally provide the heat to rented or leased dwelling units to maintain adequate and suitable heat from September 15 through May 31. The by-law defines adequate and suitable heat as a minimum air temperature of 20°C in the part of the accommodation that is normally heated.
The same by-law states that portable heaters cannot be used to achieve the required minimum temperature. Ajax's Property Standards By-law also requires a heating system capable of maintaining adequate and suitable heat in habitable space in accordance with the Rented Dwelling Temperature By-law.
