Confirm the exact model
Look for P1275CA and any related product or part number printed on the alarm label. Do not identify the model only by the front cover.
The Kidde P1275CA is an older 120 V AC hardwired ionization smoke alarm with a replaceable 9 V battery backup, Test/Hush control and hardwired interconnection. This page is intended primarily for customers identifying an existing P1275CA and evaluating a safe, compatible replacement pathway.
Before ordering a replacement, confirm the complete model number and date information on the label attached to the back or side of the installed alarm. Similar-looking Kidde alarms can use different connectors, mounting plates, sensors and interconnect arrangements.
Look for P1275CA and any related product or part number printed on the alarm label. Do not identify the model only by the front cover.
Review the manufacture date and replacement instructions. Smoke alarms are generally replaced at the end of their listed service life, commonly around 10 years.
Record the model numbers of every interconnected alarm before replacing one device. Compatibility depends on the whole system, not only the alarm being removed.

Kidde provides a replacement-guide process for discontinued alarms. Current hardwired Kidde smoke alarms such as 20SAR-CA and 20SA10-CA may be options to evaluate, but neither should be presented as a universal drop-in replacement for every P1275CA installation.
A current 120 V AC hardwired smoke alarm with two replaceable AA backup batteries. Verify connector, mounting plate, interconnect compatibility and any required approved adaptor.
A current hardwired smoke alarm option with a sealed 10-year backup battery. Confirm that its alarm functions and interconnect arrangement are suitable for the project.
| What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Model and date label | Confirms the exact alarm generation and whether the installed alarm has reached replacement age. |
| Wiring connector | A current alarm may not connect directly to the original P1275CA harness. |
| Mounting plate | Mounting patterns and alarm diameters can change between product generations. |
| Interconnected models | All alarms on the circuit must be compatible with the selected replacement. |
| Sensor and alarm functions | A smoke-only replacement does not add CO detection, voice notification or a visual strobe. |
| Approved adaptor | Use only an adaptor specifically approved for the old and new alarm combination. |
| Project requirements | Renovation scope or current code requirements may call for features beyond a like-for-like replacement. |
Replacing a P1275CA is a good time to confirm which alarm functions are required at the location.
A current hardwired smoke alarm may be suitable where only smoke detection is required, subject to wiring, interconnect and code verification.
Where visual notification is required, consider the Kidde P4010ACLEDSCA , which provides smoke detection, voice warning and a 177-candela LED strobe.
Where independent carbon monoxide detection is also required, consider the Kidde P4010ACLEDSCOCA-2 .
Replacing a failed or expired alarm in an existing home may be different from selecting alarms for new construction, an addition or a major renovation. Project scope can affect hardwiring, interconnection, placement, CO detection and visual-signalling requirements.
Ontario requires working smoke alarms on every storey and outside sleeping areas. Replacement alarms must remain operational, correctly located and maintained.
A renovation can trigger additional Building Code and electrical requirements. Confirm the approved alarm design before relying on a like-for-like replacement.
P1275CA is smoke-only. Where Ontario CO-alarm rules apply, separate CO detection or an appropriate combination alarm is still required.
Read the Ontario Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Code Guide before selecting alarms for a renovation, replacement program or multi-unit property.
Send MarsLED a clear photo of the alarm label, wiring connector, mounting plate and the model numbers of the other interconnected alarms. MarsLED can help identify product options, but final compatibility and code approval must be confirmed before installation.
